Me & Food Facts

  • I am a Culinary School drop-out, I started Culinary School a week after graduating High School and dropped out after 2 weeks, after being in a commercial kitchen I decided that wasn't for me.
  • I learned to decorate cakes when I was 10 years old.  My grandmother used to make cakes semi-professionally and she taught me.  In either 7th or 8th grade I had to write a "How-To" paper on any subject and then demonstrate it to the class, I picked "How To Decorate A Cake" and since it takes longer than I was allowed I made a video and then brought the cake to class with me.  It was a classic Teddy Bear cake.  (I plan to post some pictures, it's amazing how good I was at 10, 11, 12, 13...I made my little cousins Christening cake and it was amazing)
  • I used to dream about opening my own bakery and now that my Sister, my best friend loves baking as much as I do we hope to one day open one!  What is better than doing what you love with someone you love???
    • Another fact, I have never EVER called my Sister by her named, except as little kids when I would get really mad at her.  I have always called her Sis or Sissy regardless of who is around and I plan on my kids calling her Aunt Sis because I don't ever plan on calling her Heather!
  • I always wanted a Easy Bake Oven but by the time my parents finally bought me one I had already learned how to use the "Real" oven so it lasted about 1 day with me!
  • I know a how to make a "secret" Czech recipe thanks to my Mom & to her in laws who are Czech.  It's a pastry roll type thing, I don't know how to spell it, only pronounce it...butcha, bucha, butha...who knows.  :)  But it is one of the best desserts I've ever ate, and as of Fall 2009 I know how to bake them.  It is a long process, takes hours and dirty's lots of dishes but well worth it.  (If you would like to buy one then I would love to make you one!)
  • I hope to one day make a wedding cake or wedding cupcakes or even cater a wedding!
  • My family is full of wonderful Bakers & Cooks!
  • While alot of people see making dinner is a chore I see it as a relaxing hobby.  My favorite thing of the day is cooking dinner, now my least favorite thing to do is the dishes!
  • I have a confession...when I was single I rarely cooked.  I usually ordered take out from some restaurant or got fast food on my way home from work.  (Boy am I glad those days are over!)
  • My Mom sales Pampered Chef therefore my kitchen is covered in their products...I love Pampered Chef! (& My Mom)
  • Oh and last but not least...I started making mud pies/cakes at a very young age with my neighbor/BFF Kourtney, we even once made real icing and put on one to try to fool my sister into eating it for her birthday.  It didn't quite work but I have a feeling it was because we dyed the icing a really gross puke green color.  We used to actually make our mud desserts in a wood burning stove on her front porch!  :)
